copy right problem with imageEdit

hi. the user who added this image https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/File:Jan_Krissler_(starbug).png told me that you want it removed because of an unknown copy right? The image was taken from a video recording of my talk by the VOC (video operation center) of the chaos communication congress. the image could be used.

File:Nayacalevu, Nawaqanitawase and Habosi June 2022.jpgEdit

Hi. I noticed you closed my deletion request for File:Nayacalevu, Nawaqanitawase and Habosi June 2022.jpg as keep because @Tm: said the Australian government actually created the image. According to Commons:Copyright rules by territory/Australia works created by the Australian government are copyrighted until 50 years after the date of creation. So I'd appreciate it if you deleted the file anyway since it's obviously still a copyright violation if it was made by the Australian government instead of the government of Fiji. Thanks. Adamant1 (talk) 20:26, 3 July 2022 (UTC)

Hi, And why the license is not valid? {{DFAT}} seems to be OK here. Yann (talk) 20:31, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
The answer is pretty obvious. {{DFAT}} applies to files that come from Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website, or www.dfat.gov.au. Obviously Facebook, which is where the image comes from, isn't the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade website. Seriously dude, did you even check before you asked me? Because you can pretty easily look through {{DFAT}} yourself and see that none of the of the websites that are listed in it are Facebook. --Adamant1 (talk) 23:15, 3 July 2022 (UTC)
Get down please. The Facebook account is of the Australian Embassy in Fiji, which is very well under the direction of the DFAT. Yann (talk) 09:07, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
I'm not really sure what "get down" means, as I'm not a dog, but I'm not the only who thinks images posted to Facebook aren't covered by DFAT and your comment does nothing to show that they are. I think WikiVirusC's comment on the administrator noticeboard perfectly summarizes why DFAT doesn't extend to images posted on Facebook. I'm sure your aware as an administrator that Commons:Deletion requests says "the burden of showing that a file can be validly hosted here lies with the people who think it should be kept." You treating me like I'm a dog or whatever does nothing to satisfy that burden. --Adamant1 (talk) 15:42, 4 July 2022 (UTC)
Since you decided to ignore WikiVirusC's comment and don't seem to want to delete it or otherwise resolve the issue, is there somewhere else I can make a request to have your close overturned or should I just re-nominate the file for deletion? Thanks. --Adamant1 (talk) 02:09, 9 July 2022 (UTC)
Never mind. I just re-nominated it. --Adamant1 (talk) 00:42, 10 July 2022 (UTC)

File:SCP-2747-IO-Radiohead.jpgEdit

Hello, I saw your message that you tagged File:SCP-2747-IO-Radiohead.jpg as missing image use permissions. I am not familiar with the VRT process, so I'm not sure if I will still need to email permissions-commons regardless of what I say here. Anyways I'm messaging here to explain the evidence for why the file can be present on Commons. I've also edited the licensing information on the file to be more clear.

The image was created for the SCP Wiki, whose contents are licensed as CC-BY-SA 3.0. See its Image Use Policy, which notes the site license and clarifies it for those less familiar with licensing, in particular with regards to images (which are less likely to be original creations than submitted text). Further information (such as contact for the site's Licensing Team) is available on the Licensing Guide page. Additionally, there is a footer at the bottom of the site provided by the host, Wikidot, which notes that the site's contents are CC-BY-SA 3.0.

As noted on File:SCP-2747-IO-Radiohead.jpg, the image is a derivative. The modifier, minmin, created the derivative version for use on SCP-2747, which is listed as the source. (For the reasons mentioned above, listing the SCP Wiki as the source indicates the contents are CC unless there is a special licensing disclosure mentioning otherwise, which are rare and not present in this case.) Note you can see the licensing information on a page in the "license box" component, see the "‡ Licensing / Citation" element at the bottom of the page.

The original image is from https://www.publicdomainpictures.net/en/view-image.php?image=128915&picture=black-fractal, which is CC0. Other files on Commons accept publicdomainpictures.net as an acceptable CC0 source (for instance, File:Fish_Farm_Site.jpg), so this file should also be admissible. I uploaded the original, unmodified image as File:Black Fractal.jpg so that this file can link to it using {{Derived from}}, which should help improve the licensing documentation here.

Given this explanation, am I able to replace the {{No permission since}} with {{subst:PP}}, or how should things proceed?

Thank you. aismallard (talk) 18:32, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

@Aismallard: Hi,
Ok, no copyright issue then. I reviewed the license for the source, and I changed the license for this file to CC-0. There is no substantial modifications, so the license should be the same. Thanks, Yann (talk) 19:14, 11 July 2022 (UTC)

All my uploads have been deleted?Edit

Hi there, You have deleted all the files I have uploaded:

where the license has been specifically mentioned on the author's own website because the images are published under GFDL license. Please see: https://www.sabarnaroy.com/fractured-mosaic/ for File:Fractured-Mosaic-by-Sabarna-Roy-Book-Cover.png. Thank you. SRoyy (talk) 16:19, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

@SRoyy: The copyright of a book cover usually belongs to the publisher, not to the author, so it is unlikely that these licenses are valid. They should be confirmed by email with a proof of copyright ownership. Please see COM:VRT for the procedure. Thanks, Yann (talk) 16:25, 18 July 2022 (UTC)

Block accountEdit

Hello, can you help with blocking, the account of User talk:Lmpesantezt, this account has only uploads with copyright images and does fake claim on author-rights? Thanx@ Carolus (talk) 01:08, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Done Blocked for a month. All copyvios deleted. Next time, please ask on COM:AN/B. Thanks, Yann (talk) 09:04, 19 July 2022 (UTC)
thnx for your help.--Carolus (talk) 14:55, 19 July 2022 (UTC)

Determining copyright status of photographs taken from Government archivesEdit

Hi @Yann. I hope that you are well and fine. A user uploaded some images from the website of Darul Uloom Deoband. These photos are from 1950, with photographers being unknown. The DuD website has not explicitly stated the copyright status but has just mentioned that these are from Government Archives. Do you have any advise on this? Should the images that come from Government Archives considered PD or should we not allow them here because photographers might have lived more rendering the copyright status ambiguous. Regards, ─ The Aafī (talk) 06:26, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

@TheAafi: These images are probably in the public domain in India, but not in USA due to COM:URAA. Regards, Yann (talk) 08:33, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
@Túrelio, do you have any opinion on this? ─ The Aafī (talk) 09:12, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

The problem with Wikipedia administrators...Edit

...is that you obsessively look for ways to make yourselves useful by creating conflicts that don't exist. Nobody in any reasonable dimension thinks "anyone who votes against is a poopyhead" is anything but obvious sarcasm. Please stop creating work for yourself, it isn't appreciated. PDMagazineCoverUploading (talk) 10:20, 22 July 2022 (UTC)

And if I get blocked for this subtle jab I will never stop laughing my ass off. PDMagazineCoverUploading (talk) 10:21, 22 July 2022 (UTC)
@PDMagazineCoverUploading: I didn't mention any block, just a friendly request. It s rather sad that you take that in a confrontational way. You have to take into account the international status of this project, and the fact that many people don't have English as a native langage, and may misunderstand your "sarcasm".
