Information
Additional information needed Deferred to
 Doing… Pictogram voting info.svg Info

Please do not ask us to run checks without good reason; be aware of the following before requesting a check:

  1. Checkuser is a last resort for difficult cases; pursue other options first, such as posting on the administrator's noticeboard.
  2. Running a check will only be done to combat disruption on Commons, or as required to assist checkuser investigations on other Wikimedia wikis.
    • Valid reasons for running a check include, for example: vandalism where a block of the underlying IP or IP range is needed and suspected block evasion, vote-stacking, or other disruption where technical evidence would prevent or reduce further disruption.
  3. Evidence is required. When you request a check, you must include a rationale that demonstrates (e.g., by including diffs) what the disruption to the project is, and why you believe the accounts are related.
    • Requests to run a check without evidence or with ambiguous reasoning will result in delays or the request not being investigated.
  4. The privacy policy does not allow us to make a check that has the effect of revealing IP addresses.
  5. Requests to run a check on yourself will be declined.

Outcome

Responses will be brief in order to comply with Wikimedia privacy policy. Due to technical limitations, results are not always clear. Closed requests are archived after seven days.

Privacy concerns

If you feel that a checkuser request has led to a violation of the Wikimedia Foundation privacy policy regarding yourself, please refer the case to the Ombuds commission.

If this page is displaying outdated contents even after you refresh the page in your browser, please purge this page's cache.

To request a check:

Cases are created on subpages of Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case.

Creating a request
  • Insert the name of the suspected sockpuppeteer (the main account or puppetmaster, not the sockpuppet!) in the box below, leaving out the "User:" prefix. Do not remove the text in the box, add to the end only.
  • Please explain/justify the request by saying what it is you suspect and why it is important that the check be carried out. Indicate the usernames you suspect, using {{checkuser}}. Please do not use this template in the section header, as that makes it difficult to read the account names. Include the diffs or links required to support the request and reason for it.
  • There are people to assist you and help with maintenance of the page. Just ask for help on the admin noticeboard if you really are stuck, or take your best shot and note that you weren't completely sure of what to say.
  • If a case subpage already exists, edit the existing page instead, either adding to the currently open section (if the case is not yet archived) or adding a new section to the top using {{subst:Commons:Requests for checkuser/Inputbox/Sample}} (if the case has been archived). When editing an existing case, be sure to list/transclude the subpage here.
Example
If you want to request a checkuser on User:John Doe, enter the text Commons:Requests for checkuser/Case/John Doe then click "Request a checkuser." You will be taken to a page where you can fill out the request. Please make your request there brief and concise.

Then transclude your subpage on the top of the list at Commons:Requests for checkuser and remove {{Checkuser requests to be listed}} from the top of the case subpage.

Rationale, discussion and results[edit]

Reason: These are all obviously related accounts. They are all uploading promotional materials for a company called Mayflower-Plymouth as well as personal family photos of the company's CEO, Hendrith Vanlon Smith. I reported the issue at Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems and it was suggested to create a report here as well. Marbletan (talk) 19:16, 20 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

I added a few more accounts to the list. Marbletan (talk) 12:32, 21 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Wildhorse3[edit]

Suspected related users[edit]

Rationale, discussion and results[edit]

Reason: Coming from Commons:Administrators' noticeboard/User problems#User:Wildhorse3, extensive copyvio by sockpuppeteer, as guided by User:Yann. The account here is a already a confirmed sockpuppeteer blocked on enwiki (see en:Wikipedia:Sockpuppet investigations/Wildhorse3/Archive). This sockpuppeteer is a chronic impersonator and violator of copyrights, his utter disregard for the project is also shown by the removal of [Talk] notices/warnings ([2], [3]) and continuance of the highly disruptive behavior. The request here is to block the master/sock and check for further socks or sleepers. Gotitbro (talk) 14:35, 16 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Comrade Sourav[edit]

Suspected related users[edit]

Rationale, discussion and results[edit]

I'm coming from the English Wikipedia, where Cpiml Liberation Belgharia and Sudip Karmakar23 are already confirmed to Comrade Sourav in this SPI case section. Comrade Sourav is stale here, as they stopped editing also on Commons after the block on English Wikipedia, but I think that aligning masters makes sense and that proves the link. All three accounts upload almost exclusive media related to the CPIML political party, often with copyright problems and end up deleted.

Sudip Karmakar23 and Sukanta Bhattacharya67 create similar claims: [5] versus [6].

Sukanta Bhattacharya67 has uploaded File:Dipankar Bhattacharyya in Bardhaman.jpg and added to English Wikipedia. Sudip Karmakar23 posted to English Wikipeda File:Dipankar Bhattacharyya images.jpg that as far as I can tell was uploaded by Sukanta Bhattacharya67 shortly before. Furthermore, Sudip Karmakar23 had previously uploaded File:Dipankar Bhattacharya CPIML(L).jpg and File:Dipankar Bhattacharya.jpg on same subject that were deleted. Earlier, Comrade Sourav uploaded images with similar names that were deleted at File:Dipankar Bhattacharya CPIML.jpg and File:Dipankar.jpg.

Sudip Karmakar23 uploaded File:Subrata Dutta 2.jpg, File:Subrata Dutta.jpg, File:Subrata dutta 81.jpg, File:Subrata Dutta 77.jpg, File:Subrata Dutta.jpg. Sukanta Bhattacharya67 has similarly uploaded: File:SUBRATA DUTTA CPIML.jpg, File:Subrata Dutta cpiml LIBERATION.jpg, File:Subrata dutta cpiml.jpg.

Comrade Sourav uploaded File:Vinod Mishra CPIML LIBERATION.jpg and also File:Vinod Mishra.jpg also uploaded by Cpiml Liberation Belgharia. Sudip Karmakar23 uploaded File:Vinod kumar Mishra.jpg, File:Vinod Mishra CPIML.jpg. Sukanta Bhattacharya67 uploaded File:Vinod Mishra 233.jpg, File:Vinod Mishra CPIML.jpg.

Cpiml Liberation Belgharia uploaded File:Liberation logo.jpg, File:CPIML LIBERATION LOGO.jpg. Sudip Karmakar23 also uploaded File:Liberation logo.jpg. Sukanta Bhattacharya67 uploaded File:CPIML LIBERATION logo Bengali.jpg.

There are more overlaps if needed, this is a sampling. Each account here was serially abandoned following trouble here and on the English Wikipedia. Pikavoom Talk 11:46, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Symbol possible vote.svg Possible that Sukanta Bhattacharya67 is related to Sudip Karmakar23 (other accounts are Time2wait.svg Stale and thus cannot be compared). Handling will need to be based on behaviour. Эlcobbola talk 12:24, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
As another point on why they are the same, every single one of their surviving uploads Comrade_Sourav, Cpiml_Liberation_Belgharia, Sudip_Karmakar23, Sukanta_Bhattacharya67 is marked as "Uploaded own work with UploadWizard". However, despite Source: Own work, the Author field is divergent in the three newer accounts, probably to avoid speedy deletion though they do not stand to scrutiny:
    • Sukanta_Bhattacharya67 marked [7][8][9] with the author being "Communist Party of India (Marxist-Leninist) Liberation", while [10] has "Revolutionary Youth Association" as author and [11] has "Communist International" as international, so he's three different organizations.
    • Sudip Karmakar23 has author "All India Students Association" for [12][13], "Marxist Sena" for [14], "BSD-ML" for [15], "Revolutionary movement" for [16], "Dhaka leftist" for [17], "CPB marxist" for [18], "Lal sena" (an actual CPIML person, died 1990, so not our editor) for [19][20][21][22][23][24][25].
    • Cpiml Liberation Belgharia has "Cpiml Liberation Behala" as author for [26] and "Lal Nishan Party" for [27].
    Pikavoom Talk 13:33, 13 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
On the English Wikipedia Sukanta Bhattacharya67 was just Artículo bueno.svg Confirmed, which mean all of the four accounts listed here are confirmed on the English Wikipedia side. Pikavoom Talk 15:18, 17 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
So I blocked all socks as per enwp report. Yann (talk) 08:03, 18 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Rationale, discussion and results[edit]

Reason: Both account uploaded and reuploaded the same picture with a promotion intent. QTHCCAN (talk) 19:50, 9 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Image is in use. So far I don't see any reason for CU check. Please advise. --Krd 10:23, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Well, the file that currently has that name has been uploaded earlier today, so after this query and this seems to be another picture than the one previously detected by SteinsplitterBot. https://commons.wikimedia.org/wiki/Special:Log?type=&user=&page=File%3AVikash+Rajput.jpg&wpdate=&tagfilter=&wpfilters%5B%5D=newusers QTHCCAN (talk) 14:08, 10 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Certain history is as follows:
Especially as the page for which this image was intended, the referenced use (different image), has been deleted five times (!!!) and has merely been recreated by socks (Shayaan Javed and iswar2021) and IPs (presumably evasion), the case for abuse of multiple accounts (restoration and upload of OOS images for self-promotion) seems clear. Technical evidence is Symbol unsupport vote.svg Inconclusive; on behaviour alone, however, Cyberduck icon.png It looks like a duck to me. Эlcobbola talk 12:10, 12 July 2022 (UTC)[reply]
